 Empire 5 is a great bike for a young rider, I had one a few years back when I first got into more DH riding. For me I got a new set of minions, some tubes, boarding goggles and some sweet socks.

 I got a three inch wide piece of fabric that spans the length between your neck and waist. Not sure how to tie it though….However, my 2 year old daughter got her first bike and she already recorded her first crash. Worry not, the bike came with a helmet.

 My Christmas got DAD RAD when my 9 year old daughter got tired of pedal strikes and knee tapping her bars on her Scott spark 20 and jumped on my wife's stinky only to surprise the hell out of me by blasting through the creek beds and putting down the power down out of every turn! She said she wants to ride like daddy and his friends! Now my wife's shopping dual crown freeride bikes and loving it! My family is coming together like I never would have dreamed at Christmas and I couldn't ask for anything more perfect

 I'm taking my younger daughter to Moab tomorrow for her first trip there. 17 hour drive through some of the most beautiful scenery around. May not be much riding this time of year, but she'll get a sense of the place. Must sleep tonight.

 @cactsdrak- Got back in the wee hours of New Year's Day. Timed the drive home to arrive in Seattle just before the Space Needle fireworks. Top of the tower was shrouded in clouds, but the experience was fun. Moab was a blast. Rode Amasa Back with my daughter, and she may have gotten her first driving experience on the dirt road between Slickrock and the Porcupine Rim trailheads. :-)

 Just found out that a wonderful girl, 18, family friend and friend of my daughter's died this morning in a crash on her way to work, last day of the winter break. Embrace life. It is a precious and all too transitory experience.

 My daughter at 8 years old new that something was broke on my bike and made people buy an XT derailleur and a derailleur hanger for my bike. The hanger is wrong and the 10 speed will only work with mods or other parts and doesn't have a clutch. So I have Store credit to spend on what I want yay!

 This year sucked (my mate passed away for one thing) so I went sort of big. 2014 29er Trek Fuel EX 9.8 XO1.

Before starting with how 29ers suck, I'm 6'6" so they work just fine for me.

 Usually my family has no clue what I like so I bought myself a Specialized Enduro and a dropper post for the new family member Smile Anyways I'm just really glad that family comes together, we have a nice dinner and spend a wonderful evening together. Best part of the year. Also free time for riding is a gift for the holiday season. You just don't get enough of that throughout the year working your a** off.

 I did a 10hr ride on my Nomad. 6am to 4pm. 58 miles, 10,000 ft of climbing. Awesome 75 degree SoCal day, hero dirt everywhere. truly epic (don't sue me Specialized) The beers I had at the end were like heaven.

 what's with all the amature investigators? this was my xmas ride. 23rd. I don't own a Garmin, it is suggested that I get one due to several phone failures. check the link to the route thats posted. that's what I did. I didn't do it to impress you or to prove anything to anybody but myself. If you have doubts, check my stats. I have the miles and elevation to back this up. Week before was 62 miles.
at any rate, this would not be the site to be "posing" on regarding climbing or distance. I doubt anybody cares, unless I did a backflip along the way. I did not. rant over. Enjoy your new bike. I'm in need of one myself.

 I amazing girl got me a new ixs trail helmet troy lee jersey and gloves. 100% googles and a new kali avatar II helmet and some new tires!!! Safty was high on her list I'm more then stocked.  I got 2 new pairs of trainers And running tops, my dad made me a raw log bed with kingsize mattress. Nice because I've not had a bed at home for 8 years... Needed the running kit as I'm trying to get in the navy after being out the army since July last year. No bike parts as I don't have a bike, I'm broke haha.  Sorry to ruin the excitement buddy but due to different cable pull ratios, that mix of SRAM and Shimano will never work. You'll have to get a matching Shimano shifter.

 Shimano is only "close" to Sram 9 speed, so it will probably never work quite right in all gears. Just save up £24 and get this

 Both companies changed the pull ratio when they went to 10 speed, so none are 1:1 anymore. Apparently, you can run a shimano 10spd derailleur with sram 9spd shifter, and some people use a little spacer between the cable and der. body, but I'm afraid it's never going to shift great. Probably works in the bike stand, but suck as soon as you put some strain in the system. That said, I never tried, so give it a shot, I might be wrong.

 Cheers, i get that im not going to get good shifting, the problem im facing is that the derailuer wont shift far enough over to get the the first cog, but then wont contract enough to go to the 9th cog and sometimes even the 8th cog, btw i am running a 10x135 axle could that be my problem?

 I run a Zee mech with an X7 shifter and it works flawlessly. I'd guess the pull ratios are almost the same, because I get nice, crisp changes.

 Unscrew the high and low screws a little to get it to reach all the cogs. Don't go to far or it will shift into the spokes or off the cassette.

 Without a doubt, The only interesting posts were the joke posts and the people who didn't get anything or who didn't want anything. Everything else just feels like empty materialism from empty people. Because the emphasis should be on spending time with family not about what you got.
