And congrats to Lacondeguy - what a boss!
They might have missed some things or used terms that were a bit outdated, but all in all they really kept the vibe going and kept the viewers pumped. So in my opinion they did a very good job.
come on, when did we here Kyle Norbraten's friends tell him "Norbe" or however they would write it
Actually I have a lot of respect for red bull's endorsement of mtb - they have helped shape rampage & take it to a wider audience too. Doesn't mean you can't critique the embarrassingly poor commentary. Even if it is pointless given it's intended for the NBC masses anyway.
1. these big bike are incredible hard to pedal. with every stroke they just get slower
2. these bikes have an incredible amount of travel on the front and rear forks
3. some of these bikes are carbon fibre and some of them are aluminium
and what was up with the background music on some of the runs.. .
ps. Can you guys can guess my spirit animal?
all in all a fun event to watch.
1. "Backflips are easy." (I know he meant relative to front flips.. but wtf)
2. "The bike did what it was supposed to do and absorbed the impact to save the rider." Bikes aren't @#%ing roll cages and definitely aren't made to deform to save the rider. .
3. Mentioning how unusually tall Kelly McGarry is at 6ft. I'm pretty sure that some other competitors were 6ft and that Kelly is way taller.
Come on, let's hear everybody else's favorite commentator BS moments. The winner gets a Boxxer.
"the rear forks just absorbing that hit"
"He came up short and taco'd his wheel on the knuckle of that landing!"
"With every pedal crank he makes he loses speed"
"Brendan did a little speed wheelie before the stepdown"
"good job Norby"
"zink-five"
"sick moto whips"
Maybe I need to rewatch the run but it didn't look that much better if at all than those two boys.
zinks first run was a bit questionable that score imo. Only because he used the fire road, it killed flow and really hurt the overall run top to bottom, it broke it up.
But im not there with slow mo footage so ill trust the judges, but it appears a bit inconsistent at times. Easy to say for me behind a computer though
Anyway back to rampage
Link is here if anyone is keen
rampage.redbull.tv
"the dh racers really need to focus on tricks more"
And people who say we can't complain about a free thing? There's many things that we don't pay for in which it's absolutely fine to critique: a bad host for the Academy Awards, a Pontiac Aztec that somebody else is driving, ANY mainstream sport televised on public TV, etc.
The point is that Rampage Is such an awesome event, but the commentating ruined it for a lot of people. It's like a restaurant with your favorite food(and open for 1 day a year), but the server was annoying as @#$% and wouldn't shut up as you were trying to eat your food.
(me applying for a job for rampage next year)
but maaaan that higlught would be great than send it to NBC and say them, learn this shit or never come back to a freeride mtb event...
we are saying things that are irrelevant to the first post aren't we?
So stupid.
Easy and everyone is happy.
Credit goes to Downhill Memes.
But yeah.... it ruined the suspense of a few WC races for me, haha, but I didn't mind too much.
@amirazemi Godziek was super stoked after his run so he stay just safe
I say:
1. Kyle strait
2. Andreu
3. Semenuk
4. Rheeder
And zink probably 6th or 7th
Yeah, it may not be a great story for him to win two years in a row, but he no-handered Andreu's/Aggy's giant drop, his top section was way steeper and gnarlier, and he stretched a HUGE superman over the jump that Andreu cork-flipped (pretty comparable tricks in my mind).
Not taking anything away from Andreu's run, which was awesome, I just don't know how it beats Straits, especially by so much??
My opinion
1)Strait
2Semenuk
3) Andreu
4)Zink
Zink had huge drop but literally high fived his way down the rest of the way
Strait suicide no hander the same drop Andreu did not trick
Semunuk had a very technical line.
Judges got it wrong, commentators sucked badly
^harder stunt than anything in Rampage LOL
Or maybe Szymon is new to them and he does not party with them. ....or, what is most probable, they are just jealous of his girlfriend KasiaZagasia
I also loved the part about Norby, because everyone calls him that
I just can´t understand Zink´s score , just for that top section, come on judges....
2. Terrible background music
3. Sweet 360 Zink
4. Strait was underscored
5. Congratulations Andreu
6. You want to avoid the results by coming on pb?
7..
I hope next generation wheels will be "McGazza proof"
Still don´t get why Zink has such an high swcore for that top section!
The announcers bring nothing to the table...
enter haters.......
Semenuk also cleaned his line, including a 360 lower down, a tuck-no hander, a backflip one-foot can-can off the RZR booter. A bit faster and more style than his first run, with a couple extra (small) tricks thrown in. Sick run.
Zink stomped the ridiculous top part of his line, and the 40ft. 360 from his first run again (WTF?!?) then, again, seemed to skip the hand-built canyon gap that I think he wanted to hit, and rode the fireroad to the RZR booter, which he straight aired. No improvement on his first run.
Lacondeguy f*cked tham all!
im rewatching it now
"This year is gonna be my year"
I was stoked when he won hell my laptop almost went flying...
Dang, we better construct a zip line to rescue our fallen comrade! #Lastlineofdefence!
Holy Toledo!
Zink and Tom : balls.
Andreu and Strait: fluidity.
Thanks to everyone that took care of us, or even just stopped by, the bike valet.
Shotgun challenge anyone?
(I hope they keep their good pricing)
But maybe next year Red Bull introduces a new category "The most bling bike" and this one will win:
