Came for the colours, stayed for the disproportionately aggressive comments.
  • 6 6
riders with 60-70mm stem cant join the cool kids now.
  • 7 1
Yeah, I don’t get the hostility. We should be grateful someone has finally released a Kashima product to help us reduce the stiction between our stems and handlebars.
  • 1 1
All nine colors only available at backcountry.com...
  • 3 0
@JohnnyVV: It's funny that you say that. The new Ski-Doo Expert snowmobile (sled version of full enduro) comes with Kashima coated shocks. Shock bodies that is, not the shock shaft. WTF is that gonna do? Keep the snow from sticking to it?
  • 2 0
@sledMXer: I haven’t understood that move by BRP since I rode that sled last spring. Really a head scratcher. A sick sled other than that. If the KYB shocks were fully Kashima coated it would make the FOX upgrade pointless.
Some guy was asking $1800 for the stock suspension.

THIS is the information I come to pinkbike for. Thank you, people who decide what makes the cut.

Yeah, much rather see the field test review of the intense primer...

Great!... I'll take the black one

 @Twowheelsjunkie: It's the new orange!

@tomonda: That F5 button isn’t going to press itself!

 2 things:

1. please add a function to the site that allows for the word "colourways" to be replaces with "colors"
2. Please post today's bike review!!! I have been doing actual work all morning, I planned on reading about how the Intense snapped like a twig, or how the Pole is biking nirvana.
  • 4 1
I have been riding hard on my Intense primer in the rocky desert of AZ for 20 months now and not breaking issues here. I will say it is a great ride that I thought to myself about my riding style and wanted 10 more mm on the front and rear. Low and behold...2020 has 10 more mm on the front and the rear.
  • 123 7
 It's spelt 'colour', heathen.
  • 27 0
Given the Pole post on their website, you might have that backwards...

@ZappBrannigan: what post I haven't seen this. I honestly don't care which bike snapped I just want to see the footage and I assume that the rider wasn't injured. Also ready for the "this was a pre-production model" marketing BS from whoever the manufacturer is.
  • 7 0
@ZappBrannigan: Pole is really getting out in front of this (that's not some kind of pun, you dirty vermin).
  • 29 0
@ZappBrannigan: funny how all the prototype parts seem to commit suicide at pb field tests...unlike epstein
  • 23 0
@NebulousNate: Yeah. Also funny how much Pole shits on Pinkbike for their bike breaking. There's even a special "Criticism for Pinkbike" subheading!
  • 8 2
@endlessblockades: Whoever spelt it, dealt it, heretic.
  • 3 0
Looking at Poles site right now and they have a quip about the Stamina having a prototype swingarm and how it failed.

polebicycles.com/we-are-not-perfect-after-all
  • 2 1
Whoops, should have refreshed my browser before posting that. Didn't see all the new comments.
  • 5 1
congrats to them for not waiting and fessing up; though they still did the whole "prototype part" thing... meh.

My bet is they purposefully sent out the XC part because after testing they were hoping to do some advertising about how their "XC" parts are tough enough for the PB Field Test!!!

OOPS!
  • 5 4
@ZappBrannigan: AND they did the pre-production shuffle just like every other broken part. I will take Pole off my potential shopping list, not that they were ever on it to begin with.

@dingus: if it weren't for the US, it'd be "die farbe" lol
  • 3 0
@ricechrispy: Maybe that's the delay in today's field test release, adding a 'criticism for Pole" subhead to their review...

OR they just like making us squirm waiting for the next one. Such power... Smile
  • 3 0
Yo I agree this whole transition to calling every color a colorway is doing my head in, this shit is not a fashion furniture magazine.
  • 2 4
@dingus: hey dingus, it's spelled 'spelled'...
  • 20 2
PB: hey pole we’re going to do a field test of your bike matched against other bikes people might buy.

Pole: here’s a prototype we know may break, good luck!

PB; yup, it broke.

Pole: your trying to write a scandalous review!!! How dare you!

PB: why did you even send us that bike?

Pole: umm....look how fast our bike was before it broke!

PB: K.
  • 3 1
@CRAFTY-P: doesn't it depend on if it's past simple or past participle?
  • 3 0
@ZappBrannigan: PB said they broke 2 bikes... from Tajs cartoon and the Pole article referencing huck to flat i would say the Pole was not the catastrophic one...
  • 6 4
No shit. “Colourways” stupid hipster woke ass shit...
  • 4 1
 @seraph: It's spelt USSR, tovarishch.
  • 4 0
@thisspock: Why is it that people from Scandinavia love saying "how dare you!"?
  • 4 1
@zarban: That is a pretty weak response in my eyes, they 'mistakenly' gave a prototype part to the worlds largest online MTB site for review, it fails and they then attempt to pre-empt any criticism from PB for doing so.

Pole are not 100's of people big, its unlikely someone packed the wrong part away, they messed up trying to send a different frame to PB - maybe it is higher performing but less durable and thats the reason?

Pole seem rather bad at handling public responses .
  • 1 3
@justanotherusername: Yep', not the best response. F1 stuff breaks but I don't ever expect to put my hatchback in the same situations as an F1. But buying an enduro bike is like buying the F1, not the hatchback (though quite honestly I'll never push my enduro bike to the same extremes as pro enduro riders and that Stamina would be totally fine for me).
Also in the bike industry the weight Vs solidity "war" is prominent, not so much in F1 or motorized activities.
  • 3 0
@justanotherusername: Apparently Pole only found out their bike broke in October... When judging by the videos and some other content that PB pushed I would think that everything was filmed during late summer at the latest. Then they go on to complain about Pinkbike not accepting a new swingarm.. This is kinda like when PB posted that scathing review of the Enve wheel's. Imo Pinkbike has no reason to accept or 're-test' with the new swingarm.

"We have known about the case since last month, and we tried to send a replacement swingarm to Pinkbike. "
  • 3 1
@cgreaseman: Well all of this is assuming that Pole are being truthful and that what hasnt actually happend is that PB broke a production swingarm, Pole then panicked, made a hasty re-design and machined a new section and tried to pass this story off and send them the new part assuring them that somehow they mistakenly built a frame for the largest online bike website with incorrect parts, and nobody there noticed it was gone until PB told them it had broken.
  • 2 0
@justanotherusername: Hah true but if you own a Pole stanima that would be easy enough to tell based off photo's provided by Pole in that article.. The "XC" swing-arm is 20mm thick while the "standard" arm is 36mm. Even the stupidest company would realize the PR nightmare if they tried to pull something like that... It'd easily be the death of a company the size of Pole.

Also, why the hell are they trying to shave 100g off of an already 35+ pound bike.
  • 1 0
@cgreaseman: True, one thing that is pretty evident is they need to re-think how they communicate with the public, they caused a bit of a stirr with the whole aluminium v carbon debate too if I remember.
  • 1 2
@dingus: They had the Russian winter and disposable soldiers on their side, plus they only had to focus on the Eastern Front. We had to deal with sending boats full of Jewish refugees back to Germany and putting Japanese American citizens in internment camps, so we definitely contributed more.

Oh and it's "color", you Redcoat
  • 1 0
@cgreaseman: I think that the S140 is closer to 30 lbs in a trail configuration build and can be as light as 26-27 lbs in the XC build. The S180 on the other hand, definitely 33 lb builds.

9 colors and no oil slick?

  • 10 0
Well it's considerably cheaper than i9 so that's good.
  • 4 2
i9 requires much much more machine work - a lot of this can be done on a multi axis lathe in one hit.
  • 6 0
 Yeah but raceface quality i9
  • 5 2
i9 gives you the choice to combine colors - but doesn't look like RF gives you that option. So if you want black and gold, you need to buy both black and gold (2 stems = 200 dollars), but with i9 you can choose black faceplate gold stem, etc, for like a 1000 combinations in 1 stem (160 dollars).
Also, i9 is a company doing local trailwork in my local area, so extra money is well spent =)
  • 2 1
Not really. I9 stem is $125 on Colorado Cyclist.

  • 3 1

I'll stick with Spank. Better price, awesome quality, and multi colors is standard, not a press release.

I’m quickly becoming a Spank concert-love my Vibrocore bar, and now that I’m shopping for a new stem I’m thinking the Split would be a good match.

I have a RaceFace Stem (well, two in actuality). Both less than 4 months old, one stripped face plate bolt (top right from the front). Vendor said it had to be improper install (pesky torque wrench failing me again!!!!!! WTF???).

The other is on the bike and ONLY because I was able to get a 5cm and no other brand had an option to hold my Renthal 25mm bars at the time.....so far the one on the bike is good. The other? Waste of $$ and proves I will not purchase any more RaceFace products (just ask my Rotor Kapic crank!)
  • 3 4
Wow. Colours. Just what I need to replace the 10 gram lighter black stem of an enduro that a bike shop mechanic traded me for a case of beer.

Where the flip is today’s video???!!!!!
  • 3 1
NOT ACTUALLY AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE NOW
  • 2 0
Sod the field test, this is a real game changer Big Grin
  • 2 0
WTF? Black is only available in 60? or 70mm options! That's so lame!
  • 2 0
No Black is all sizes32/40/50/60/70. The 60 and 70mm only come in black not the other colors.
  • 2 0
 @OTBSteve: that makes more sense.

Silly me.
  • 2 0
 Now that's true innovation!

 Good and nice stem (seriously).

For my dream build I was asking for unicorn poo colourway.

They didn't do it ! Frown
  • 2 0
Anyone care to explain how a colour can be rowdy?
  • 2 0
What the hell is a "rowdy colourway"?
  • 2 0

Kashmoney Gold is hands down the best name for that color

OK, am I the only one who still have a 31,8mm bar and who`s being frustrated by this 35mm colored serie?

Black was and is the only necessary color.

  • 5 5
Hey RaceFace, how about fixing your worthless piece of garbage Bottom Bracket that only last 3 months!!!
  • 5 3
Mine is still fine. Over a year of riding and I weight 235lbs. Think it’s you bud.
  • 1 0
Do you wash your bike regularly?
  • 2 0
@the-burd: A clean bike is a happy bike!, with that, my answer is probably not as you would imagine; nor, pressure washed either.

RaceFace has a long history with this issue a knows some of there BB's (BB 92) are crap. Multitudes of rider complaints and Thousands of replacements sold. Warranty NONE! When this is the result a product should be taken back to the drawing board for improvement. I have owned $25 Shimano bb's that lasted years on hardtails, yes internal but long lasting.

A decent BB should last more than a year and no less. if failure is is periodic the frame manufactures should make them threaded; so anyone can simply change it themselves. BB and cost for service is too much for this kinda of maintenance.
  • 2 2
Please include stainless bolts or something that doesn't rust in 90 days. EDventure

 sweet... now warranty my cranks

Ha!! I called and emailed them multiple times in June, 2018 about the warranty on my cranks. Crickets.....

I’m beginning to think they’re not going to get back to me..... Smile
  • 2 3
And my pile of RF droppers.
  • 1 0
@JDFF: Just fix it. I'm guessing you have the one that's a 9point8 and it's slipping? Pretty easy to fix and prevent if it is slipping.
  • 1 0
@the-burd: I think you meant to say " the that's based on the 9point8 design but without the production, final assembly and pre-shipping quality control that is essential to ensure that this design is effectively delivered to the customer". My three different 9point8 dropper have not had one problem that could not be explained by simple and honest fair wear and tear (except a weird snapped seat post head which they fessed up to as an anomaly they would not have been able to detect and shipped a replacement on fully serviced seat post within three days - awesome customer service) or user error ie a crash. The RF version, on the the other hand, total crap shoot from day one.

But we have digressed from "colourways" and "cashmoney gold" (because we cannot be arsed to anodise our gold to the industry accepted standard of what gold is generally finished as because gold is one of those anodising colours that is really hard to get the same every batch and we decided that we cannot be arsed to even try).
