5:07 am PST:

Disaster for Tracey as she crashes in sight of the finish line! A wild final race run for Tracey Hannah.

5:11 am PST:

A flat tire for Brendan Fairclough ruins his chances at a good result today.

6:19 am PST:

It's another flat tire for Mike Jones.

6:27 am PST:

Jamie Edmondson's time is looking strong as he still leads after Thibaut Daprela goes 0.6 seconds back.

6:31 am PST:

It is looking like there may be some rain in Lousa, this could really mix things up in the overall.

6:33 am PST:

It is definitely raining at the top of the course, while this could affect the race results today all of the main riders in the fight for the overall are still to come.

6:39 am PST:

David Trummer goes green at Split 2! This shows that despite the rain the track isn't running much slower.

6:41 am PST:

David Trummer crosses the line fifth.

6:53 am PST:

Dakotah Norton blows his front tire off the rim on the entrance to the final jumps.

7:09 am PST:

Loris Vergier would have wanted more from his run today for the overall title fight and with a 14th place it may be tough for him to take the title.

7:10 am PST:

Thibaut Daprela will now finish ahead of Loris Vergier in the overall, could the first-year Elite rider manage to win the title?

7:11 am PST:

Greg Williamson runs wide and goes through the tape ending his chance at a top time.

7:15 am PST:

Looking at the overall standings and the five riders who were in a fight for the title the scores look like this:

Thibaut Daprela: 588
Loris Vergier: 568 (Currently in 14th)

Still to come:
Matt Walker: 517 - Needs 72 points (14th or better to win)
Greg Minnaar: 427 - Needs 162 points (Beat Daprela to win)
Loic Bruni: 427 - Needs 162 points (Beat Daprela to win)

7:21 am PST:

It is looking more and more like Edmondson will take the win today and with the course running slower it may mean Thibaut Daprela takes the overall in his first Elite season.

7:28 am PST:

Troy Brosnan has a wild run and goes into third! The overall fight is really on now as Thibaut Daprela drops to fourth.

7:30 am PST:

With Matt Walker, Greg Minnaar and Loic Bruni left the overall scores look like this:

Thibaut Daprela: 568

Still to come:

Greg Minnaar: 427 - Needs 141 points
Loic Bruni: 427 - Needs 141 points

7:33 am PST:

7:39 am PST:

Loic Bruni is green at Split 4 can he hold the lead to the line?

@Matt115lamb: No matter how fuel efficient a new car is, the impact associated with making it will almost always make it worse for the environment long term than a car that already exists :p

 So badass!
  • 17 0
@N-60: this isn't necessary true. On average, it take a new non electric car around 3years to make up for its production emissions. A new EV makes a much more complicated calculation, and it is more dependent on battery production and how the power is produced. In Norway, most of our power is renewable and therefore EVs make a lot of sense. www.carbonbrief.org/factcheck-how-electric-vehicles-help-to-tackle-climate-change
Not to derail completely, tearoffs sucks and old Land Rovers are epic.
  • 1 4
@bengtleon: I always doubt these statistics as they are probably favouring electric vehicles plus batteries are really toxic for the environment in all respects. Also land rovers are really unreliable and constantly break down. They also drive like shit on the road. A used diesel van does the job of transporting bikes, is more efficient and way easier to drive on the road.
  • 8 0
another thing that is usually not mentioned is the noise pollution. EV cars and BUSes are really nice to have around. Well even petrol is better than diesel. EV cars have also less maintenance, oils and stuff. I still think there is room for every engine and I wouldn't pick a one tool too rule them all.
  • 2 0
@bengtleon: that's interesting, thanks for the info!

@harvUK: Dunno, Bruni only pulled back 3 thousandths of a second in that section in the first race... not that it hurt I'm sure

 @harvUK:

Would have.

i was hoping for Minnaar as well! the word Legend get thrown around too often but in his case it is fitting. loic winning made it sting a bit more :/
  • 15 2
In interview with Rob Warner just after the race Minaar said that he hit the starting booth's roof with his helmet and displaced his goggles, and he had to put them back in place just after the start. Without this he would have won. Which I think he should and deserves more than anyone else.
  • 38 2
The fastest person down the hill wins. That's how racing works. Minnaar had already had multiple practice sessions, 2 quali sessions and 1 race out the same start hut before forgetting to duck on race 2. Great race and well done to everyone who gave it their all. Good to see old favourites return to form and new young guns blazing a trail.
  • 6 1
@Malky79: the voice of reason but Im still disappointed. That said Loics run made it almost as good as Snowshoe.
  • 1 0
@harvUK: Still think it's a suspension gimmick? Seem like a lot of hassle just to switch the damping setting...which a simple cable actuator can do...
Maybe it something else that related to the crank/BB using rotational movement to increase momentum...? Guess we will never know...

Every DH 'Only' world cup should be a double header.
  • 33 1
That's how we could have 15 races a year!
  • 6 1
 @DoubleCrownAddict: why stop there?
  • 5 0
Who’s be interesting to see how the racers feel about that..track conditions get obliterated after one round let along two. Still was awesome to watch and I’m all for it!!

Would be more cost effective for teams . The venues would also make more money.. ( once spectators are allowed )
  • 5 6
Fast track to burnout for the riders
  • 1 0
@zyoungson: You could space it a bit more.

Of course not when going from back to back weekends, but in the beginning of the season, where races are spaced a bit more, why don't make a double header in places like Maribor, Losinj or Fort William.

Quali on tuesday/wednesday, race on wednesday/thursday, a day-off and then the usual saturday/sunday.
  • 2 0
@BeerGuzlinFool: but I think the Friday races won't really draw the same crowd as Sunday... As much as I like it, I can only watch Sunday's races live, Friday is during work hours. So less live spectators for red bull etc.
In I normal year the Sunday race would always have a higher standing than the Friday race.
  • 4 0
Racing days Thursday and Sunday wth Friday off. Loads of time to re-cut the courses and rest up
  • 3 1
@danimaniac: It would still work out. Also they could do a 5 venue series 10 races. Let racers use the top 8 finishes. That way if there was an injury it would give them time to heal or they could throw out the worst run of the year. Would make things interesting.
  • 2 0
Agreed. Make track 1 longer than track 2 as well. Give them a bit of a physical break.
  • 4 0
They need different camera angles for the different race tracks though. On the screen the second race looked exactly the same as the first
  • 3 2
This would rule out privateers who already have to take a 2/3 days off work to race, let alone a week
  • 77 1
Thank you Tracey! Always loved seeing you race Wish you all the best for your next chapter!
  • 9 1
Great to see her charging in her last race. It would have been easy just to cruise.
  • 13 0
I still can't believe she crashed on the last corner! Crazy bad luck.

Incredibly happy to see Marine win the overall. As a rider she reminds me very much of the great Emmeline Ragot. A short season but a deserved champion.
Chapeau Marine. Beer

Agree 1000% Marine Cabirou has been on an absolute tear for 2 years and doesn't seem to get the credit she deserves as an amazingly talented athlete.

The bridge ain't so bad, it's covered in chicken wire.
  • 35 2
@DavidGuerra: you ever take a drop turn on wet chicken wire at WC race speeds?
  • 7 4
@abueno: Not saying it's perfect, just not super sketchy as plain wood would be. And the bridge structure itself forms a kind of berm, if you're willing to risk it a bit. Either way, I'm sure the fault for the extra time is not entirely its.
  • 5 0
@DavidGuerra: would love them to rebuild it double width with a berm/wall ride to the exit.

Hopefully this puts Lousã properly on the map and brings some €€€
  • 4 0
@muletron: It could be done but I gotta say this, easier and faster is not necessarily better. If you get rid of all the sketchy parts you end up with a freeway-type bikepark, with a very reduced value for competition.
  • 3 0
@DavidGuerra: This is only a bridge and dont need to be a "sketchy part" in my opinion. I agree with what @muletron has said, for the safety of the riders a width bridge with some support in the corner would be perfect. We have an example in Andorra.

Weird season but so exciting also!!
-Loris finally puts some good consistent top to bottom runs and converts 2 wins
-Greg extending his all time record at 39
-Matt Walker with consistent solid runs, we will have to keep an eye for this one next season
-Bruni showing he is still at the top of his game
-Can't wait to see Finn putting some good results, because his pace is clearly there
-Also looking forward to see Gwin, Hart and Brosnan on the top step of the podium.é
2020 was fun after all. Already looking forward to 2021 yewww!!!
  • 7 0
You're right, it actually was fun, some good suspense and surprises
  • 10 0
Totally agree. And Daprela! and Angel Saurez back in the top and Phil Antwil in a top 5 again. And the women's races have been some of the most exciting races this whole season. Fantastic to see so many women contenders.
  • 2 0
@chagel: yes i replied to my initial comment (don't know why it does not appear...), adding that Daprela was a big surprise this season, and will be added to the french domination. Also, Thirion is back at a good pace. Let's also not forget Amaury who will surely get on the podium a couple of times. Things are getting tight and 2021 will be full of surprises i think

  • 11 0
@ingotaraske: Why? They are all free to use different suspensions brands and types (coil/air) adjusting them to their preferred settings. What is wrong with a DH rider locking out their shocks? Not as if it hasn't been done before.

  • 7 0
@MarcusBrody: Its just weird, team has officialy pulled out of the last race due to covid (only one I believe) while both of their riders were actually there, which clearly shows that it was not an unanimous decision... plus Warner has been fueling the rumors about Hart riding for cube next year, so not really sure... Vige has a history of really good times in certain sections but not great overall results... Atwill on the other hand is one of my overall favorite riders with amazing skills and has just shown that he can still be competitive racing...
  • 4 0
@winko: That is what makes me so curious. The riders going it alone was somewhat odd, but they both seemed to have made it count. Atwill is only 25 and has been improving pretty steadily over the last half of last season and this one. Seems like he's comfortable on the bike and settling back in after his injury a few years back. If he doesn't end up back with Cube, I hope someone decent picks him up. He's one of my 5 favorite riders to watch and one of the few who I'll watch all their non-race edits as well. I'd imagine that's valuable to a brand.
  • 4 0
@MarcusBrody: he's worth so much for that reason (his non race edits and personality), I assumed Cube picked him up to capitalise on that and turn their (somewhat staid) image around. They fumbled that one though, their marketing dept needs a good kicking.

Also he's a local boy, and did an edit in my local woods so always rooting for him, want to see him keep killing it!

Now he's finding race form again he's got the ability to cover all bases, he will be great value for a company that has half a clue what to do with his strengths.

  • 3 0
No points were awarded for qualification and only 114 points b/n Walker & Vergier. 250 pts to the winner today so whoever wins takes the overall & I think Minnaar and Bruni are close enough to be in with a shout also

Looks like a 4 way shoot out and amazing racing

Nina clearly is no longer the underdog. Right up there with the best of them. She'll always deserve the respect for getting this far. If there is one clear group of winners with the double header format, it would be the privateers. Travel twice, race four times. Makes this very expensive sport slightly less expensive. For that alone, I think they should keep the double headers. BMX has had it for years, I don't see how mountainbiking can't have it too.

Bruni took the win, now let all the speculation of what switch he hit before the pedal section began.

I like Bruni (third in my list after Loris, and obviously first is Greg, who is my favourite, have to admit) but winning on something I believe no one else uses is utter bull s$it. Bruni was up first sector, and behind both 2nd and 3rd to Greg, then took the lead from the pedal section. I’m all for tech progress BUT have similar components (SRAM vs shimano drivetrain, boxxer vs fox etc...). The jk I make: “is what’s next? He realizes e-bike tech for assisting?”.... now rant is over I will say those four: Loris, Greg, Bruni and Walker fighting it out made 2020 a better year!!! And they all did an amazing job!

 @wvanlogg: Using a lock-out isn't new in DH.
  • 1 0
@Mitch243: progress doesn't mean new just means getting ahead/ moving forward...
  • 1 0
 @harvUK: I see your point.

SUPER BRUNI - Enough said, huge congratulations to Matt Walker, well deserved over the 4 races.
  • 3 0
Great race! For a short season the intensity was awesome! Two questions if anyone has the time:

1) Has anyone noticed Warner basically verbally beats up on Claudio? It's actually uncomfortable to see. They are such a great team. I'd hate to see them split up over personality issues.

2) Is Red Bull Hardline happening this year?
  • 6 0
 1) I doubt that very much. Warner is a Brit and us Brits are a sarcastic bunch and its easy for "banter" to be misunderstood but rest assured its all in good spirit Smile

2) Hardline has been cancelled. Hopefully it will happen in 2021.
  • 3 0
 @ian-r: Thanks!
  • 4 7
Yes he seems to be a dominating c*nt, don't he. They put on a great show, I've really enjoyed this years version. Claudio seems to be adding several more insightful tech comments than he has in the past.
  • 13 3
 @flaflow:
Claudio "he doesn't look as fast as some of the others so far"

*goes green at the split*

Claudio "now he needs to concentrate and not make any mistakes"

*smashes a berm at high speed*

Claudio "wuuuaaaarrrrgghh"

Every bloody time.
  • 9 5
Claudio sucks!!! If I was Warner I'd be jack of him too.. he just says the same things over and over
  • 2 0
@johnnyboy11000: you've never noticed that Smooth Is Faster? Especially viewing a monitor.
  • 2 0
@andydhteam: yes he does. While watching guys coming down the same turns and bumps for a couple hours.

Huge congrats to Jamie. Obviously the wet bridge (and perhaps other sections not in the feed) affected times to an extent, however, his section times elsewhere were on point. Plus he was only 2.8 seconds back from Matt Walker on Friday.
Hope he gets a ride for next year!

Also, I really think the commentary booth needs some fresh blood. Oh my word that was poor.
  • 20 13
Agree with you about commentary needing a refresh, I can't stand Claudio
  • 20 13
 @J1BB: Claudio is awful.
  • 8 10
@J1BB: any anyone who says otherwise is deaf.

Defiantly room for improvement. Drove me crazy today they didn't have details on what was happening on zone 2. Couldn't they have someone be on track and radio in some info? Make up a bit for not suppling fuller video coverage.
  • 20 6
@Unrealityshow: What's up with all the Claudio bashing? His contributions seem on point. If you come from a mindset of evaluating the trails (you ride) his input is relevant and insightful.
  • 6 4
Hard to listen to. screech factor way to high.
  • 10 7
@flaflow: His voice is grating. He rarely has worthwhile insight. The fact he couldn’t figure out that a wet wood feature was why they were slowing down is mind boggling.

If the racing wasn’t so amazing, and Rob so entertaining, I would not watch.
  • 4 3
@flaflow: Claudio just needs to work on hitting the sweet spot.
  • 7 0
@flaflow: He said a bunch of stupid shit, then I totally lost it when Dak Norton (I think) got a front flat and rolled his tyre off the rim, and you could clearly see the insert in the tyre in the live feed, and Claudio was all "He obviously isn't running an insert, or else that wouldn't have happened".
  • 7 1
Sorry. Claudio is pain to listen. I know he's not native speaker so some things don't come up as natural as Rob, but is voice tone doesn't help either when you don't say anything relevant. Cringe af.
  • 4 0
@flaflow: you clearly haven’t seen any of the older World Cup videos. The freecaster commentary was the peak of WC DH commentary.

Eliot Jackson did a pretty sweet job for the Crankworks races.

If the weather gets bad does Deprella win the overall with a third here?

Obviously the rest of the top 4 is on another level but times are going up...
  • 5 1
30 minutes later the commentators realize this. Gutted for Loris after the first 5 days of the season going perfectly
  • 5 0
Best one I’ve watched for years
  • 4 0
So bummed about Loris. He won half of the races and didn't even get on the overall podium.
  • 1 0
I think it was in his wyn interview that he seemed to have a pretty weak attitude before the last race. He kept saying he wasn't fast enough, even though the reason he failed in race 1 wasn't because of speed. Was kind of surprising, figured he wouldn't win after seeing him looking so downtrodden
  • 2 0
@Dogl0rd: Had the same feeling. It looked like Wyn was trying to cheer him up. Shame, as it seemed he was on fire and on course to win 3rd in the row.
  • 5 0
2020 and UCI still don’t care about tall riders
  • 2 0
Wonder if they adjusted for 29?

Most bikes would be sitting higher than 26 and 27 wouldn't they?
  • 3 1
Would be if bottom bracket height is higher. Not sure whether it is significant though. There are so many more variables though. The amount of anti-squat as riders smash on the pedals when they leave the start hut, the size of their helmet camera or mohawk... I think mohawk size is dominant out of all these. Just like with the skin suit ban, riders should be required to run a considerable mohawk and venues should size their start hut accordingly.

LOICCCCCC!!! SUPERBRUNI for the win! What a great year of riding despite all that’s going on in the world!
  • 29 0
I sorta wanted to see Greg take one more but at least the last few riders were exciting to watch!
  • 2 0
@adrennan: Yeah I would have been completely fine with Greg winning, so many of the riders today deserved a win
  • 4 0
@Firebro19: Nobody is ever dissipointed when Greg wins. Like literally nobody. If I was racing for the win myself, and I got beat by Greg, I would still be stoked.
  • 1 0
 @jomacba: of course! He’s a
  • 1 0
 @jomacba: sorry meant to say

Of course! He’s a monster on the track, I was routing for him the whole race. I was just saying that a lot of riders including him definitely deserved a win, and I’m happy with the results! All the riders gave it their all.

Just wondering, ...outside of cycling, are there many others where we all compete under one flag?

I can think of motor sport...

Anyone want to Google that for me?

 @mi-bike: okay, let's get in to this then. Firstly I didn't give a 1-2-3, simply 3 names as well, a top 3. If I had meant to predict a 1-2-3 I would have clearly marked them 1st 2nd 3rd.
Secondly, not a self congratulating pat on the back. More of a dissatisfaction of my own thinking about the race.
Thanks for your input though. Unfortunately it will be discounted for further consideration.

Ethan Craik won the junior overall with Oisin second. Oisin got no points in the last two races. Very unlucky but that's racing. I wonder did he get a puncture or crash.
