We enjoyed getting nerdy with the
State of the Sport Survey earlier this year, so we wanted to change the focus from pro athletes to take a look at more typical mountain bikers' preferences too.
This is your opportunity to let the industry know what your priorities are. Do you think that product managers always spec the wrong bars? Ruin a good bike with bad graphics? What's your number one priority when you're in the market for a new helmet? This community is a vocal crew, but you can bet that any brands worth their salt spend a fair amount of time reading the comments to determine whether their "big idea" is likely to be a success or fall flat on its face. Tell the industry what your priorities are by
completing this 15 minute survey.
Like the State of the Sport Survey, we will be making the results public to everyone once it's complete so you can see whether you're an outlier or the new standard. Does everyone really want mixed-wheel bikes? Expect the data analysis articles in September, since you'll have until
August 30, 2021 to complete the survey. And we'll do it again next year to see what's changed year over year.
Complete the survey for a chance to
win one of twenty $250 Pinkbike Shop gift cards.
The survey is anonymous and we won't be associating any of the information with your Pinkbike account or sharing your email with brands. You only need to provide your email if you want to be entered in the draw to win a prize.
Need option: Irrelevant / Don't give a shit
Also the clothing options were missing some type of options for "Whatever is on sale".
As for what components on my next bike? Well, what comes with the bike I'm buying?
Helmets I have to try on. Clothes the same.
Other, Other, Not sure, I don't use "X", Other, Shimano, Other, Box, I build my own, Not sure, Nike?, Other, Other, Vittoria, What's that?, Other, Prefer not to answer, email.
(other: whatever's on sale when I need it)
Maybe you can direct me to some, "professional surveys" so I can see what I'm missing. Must be amazing!
I take the survey because I know "in a way", it helps pay for the free content on this site. (and I need my Friday Fails!) But they're also going to share the results with us and some of it will be interesting.
No, I don't really care what brand of sunglasses people choose to buy next year. And obviously they didn't have exactly the right choice in the drop down for me to answer all of the questions.
But I just chose"other" and typed in whatever I wanted. BANG, my voice was heard...
Problem with research that people do not just fit into boxes, unless you want Sheeple !
No real pressing questions:
- nothing about plastic packaging in products which is ridiculous
- nothing about what we'd like to see companies doing more of / less of
- nothing about what we value from brands interns of investment in racing, or putting out video content for example
Pretty disappointing really considering this was posed along the same lines as the state of the sport survey which I thought was great and gave a really good insight. I get that PB has to make money to provide the content it does (old adage of if you're not paying for it, you are the product) but this is still a bit of a missed opportunity.
There are at least two trackers active on this domain. So yeah, they do.
And what's the difference between trail and enduro anyway?
And if I'm joining a road group on my gravel bike, how does it count?
Kg's all the way for me, I think it's time we embrace the future
Idk what that is, but it sounded like something i should be today
I'll show myself out.

Surprised that there was no question about the brand of pick up I own to drive to the trail...
And what's with the US$, pounds and feet/inches ? Thought this was an international focused website, but clearly not.
But I guess in terms of units of measure/currency, it's easier for all of us to convert into USD as that's where the website is based.
I guess?
Not a single question on warranty, quality, post selling service, spare parts, broken frames/suspensions, freaking high prices...
I'm gonna be honest I don't want to be bothered if it's the former.
New or used. Estimated in USD.
Which brand of complete mountain bike will you likely purchase next? *
f*cked if I know, I only just bought a new MTB. I couldn't answer "none" or "no idea" at this point so I had to give up.
Also, agree with the guy who says you need an option for how happy you are with your current stuff, and an " undecided" for future stuff.
I lost interest after a few minutes.
What brakes? Whatever is on the bike? What wheel? Whatever is on the bike??
Here's a suggestion : E-bikes and e-bikes forks should have mount options for racks, lights, mudguards, lock and everything. These things are pretty expensive, much more than just a bike, can pretty much be a commuter.
also, why is there not an option for "new bike2 or "build your own" - you just assume we all just buy a new bike every time - do you? I keep my shit as long as I can and just rotate parts
We all want 28.99"+ as the new wheel standard...Call it an extension of the DUB standard. 28.99 Spindle, 28.99 Wheels, etc...because 29" is just too big...
Also, where do we tell them that we want more proprietary non-standards? Surely Shimano is ripe to come out with a completely new spindle standard. Maybe with T47 BB's gaining popularity, we will start to see 32mm spindles (resuse those old and outdated 32mm fork stanchions)...only to have SRAM come out with 30.99MM DUB+ a year later.
Presumably based on post outside poll comments, these answers are loosing their validity.
Also used the Other option for which brand I'll be purchasing next. Most times I don't have a preference.
Dammit..
