Derek Vondracek 2010 Season Derek Vondracek 2010 Season
Derek and I both grew up in Fernie B.C. and have been riding and shooting together since I can remember. Derek has a very unique style and mainly focuses on the street, park and dirt jump aspects of riding. I have always helped Derek out with bike parts over the years by building his bikes, and selling him all of my old parts. Even though Derek's bike isn't 23lbs or perfect color coordinated, he still shreds as hard as anyone. This is very evident in the visuals below. Watch for Derek in the 2011 season!

We will be working hard to get your guys more stoked than ever. Hope you all enjoy our work in the meantime.

A Conversation With Aaron Gwin - Interview A Conversation With Aaron Gwin - Interview
No longer the new kid on the block, Aaron Gwin's first two seasons at the top tier of the sport have netted him numerous podium placings and a World Cup ranking of 4th overall - an impressive resume, especially considering his relative lack of experience. Having recently signed to join the Trek World Racing team for next season, Gwin is aiming even higher.

We caught up with Aaron to talk about where he came from, where he's going, the switch from Yeti to Trek World Racing, and changes that he would make to the World Cup tracks and calender. Read the entire interview inside!

I ride for nicks eyes has been a huge success! I ride for nicks eyes has been a huge success!
Thank you all for what you have done for me, after the most insane month of my life the smoke has cleared, the surgery is over, and things have gone so much better than I could have ever hoped for...a modern day miracle has happened! Not only were they able to stop the disease in my right eye, they were able to turn my left eye back on. Because of all of you I get to have my life back, see my wife again, and once again go shred a trail. I am healing up just fine, everyday getting a little better and a little stronger with my sight. We truly love you all.

PS One of the side effects of having the three surgeries done is that I have to wear sunglasses like all the time now in any type of semi bright light because they just kill if you don't. So I'm not trying to look cool and be a rock star in the video.

Ryan Wants to Stoke you out - Episode 3 - Best Pla Ryan Wants to Stoke you out - Episode 3 - Best Place on Earth
Featured riders: Geoff Gulevich and Richie Schley

When I first starting putting together the concept for this segment, it was an easy call to ask Richie to be a part of it. As a hall of fame'r, he's one of the guys that made free riding what it is today and he's been chillin' in the Whistler valley for a few years. I figured since Gully snatched a young one right out from Richie's nose on an Adidas cat skiing trip this past winter I would reunite them for some fun...ha ha!

Riding with these guys in this scene is always a good time...they certainly know most of the good lines. Enjoy!

Sub-Freezing temps couldn’t hold these Race-Heads back as another 65 riders showed to do battle on Tuesday night at the Abbotsford Agrifair.

When registration opened on Tuesday night, the temperature outside was -6 degrees Celsius. Which as it turns out is pretty dang cold to be out racing bikes. But the temperature inside the Abbotsford Agrifair heated up nicely as riders tore around the track while warming up for the 2nd race in the 6-race series. Abbotsford BMX's maintenance of the track has been amazing, and the traffic on the track so far has formed it into a smooth, quick, and really fun track to ride.

Trailbuilders of the North Shore - Part 2 - Peter Trailbuilders of the North Shore - Part 2 - Peter Morin
As Fall approaches, trail work gets done. Most people who ride trails don't really think about trail work (some have joked that mysterious trail fairies come out at night to build coasters, bridges, do rockwork and lovingly scatter pine needles over the forest floor). The reality on the North Shore is that most of the work has been and still is being done by volunteers. Trail grunts, you know who you are.

Utarado Winter Utarado Winter
As the temperatures drop, we had to head west to get away from the snow and to ride our bikes. The question was, could we escape it?

Just a week ago, Erik Obermeyer and myself headed west from the front range of Colorado. We headed out to Grand Junction to meet up with the Grassroots Cycles' crew. The drive out included snow, sleet, ice, and tough roads. Luckily my little Tacoma rallied through. When we got into town, we headed straight for the new Lunch Loops Bike Park (LLBP). The LLBP was recently built by James Flatten of Grassroots and a small crew. The park is awesome! It's located at the bottom of several well known trails, including some directional DH specific trails that are completely LEGAL!

Grand Junction really is stepping it up and putting themselves on the map.

Gravity Canterbury Summer Series Race #3 Gravity Canterbury Summer Series Race #3
The summer series is brought to a wrap as the last race sends it off. The previous day, Saturday, had 6-7 hours of non-stop heavy rain that looked as though it wouldn't give in. The new top section was freshly built and the previous Wednesday when I went down it, it had an inch or two of fine dust covering the soft soil underneath. The fine Christchurch weather pulled through on the Sunday and gave us awesome temperatures that dried out the track just enough to make it perfect, not too dusty, but not too wet, just tacky and fast. The last race wasn't just the 3rd race of the series, but it was also the Canterbury Champs race so the winner of each race received a trophy for the regional champs.

Here is a little B Roll photo gallery from the helicopter shoot, which included Dane throwing down some massive tricks over the 35 foot trick jump for the camera, before snapping his bike clean in half after nose casing a 360 tail whip! The footage is absolutely mind blowing, and the highlight would have to be Dane stomping a 360 superman seat grab over the big trick jump, after going down hard on the first attempt.

Somehow Dane escaped without injury.

Trailbuilders of the North Shore - Part 1 - Dean R Trailbuilders of the North Shore - Part 1 - Dean Reid
As Fall approaches, trail work gets done. Most people who ride trails don't really think about trail work (some have joked that mysterious trail fairies come out at night to build coasters, bridges, do rock work and lovingly scatter pine needles over the forest floor). The reality on the North Shore is that most of the work has been and still is being done by volunteers. Trail grunts, you know who you are.

This is a shout out to some veteran builders who's work has given many riders and trail users lots of joy. First up, Dean Reid of 7th Secret Fame,

As we see in the third episode of Seasonaires, once riding gets in your blood then in pulses on and on. Emily started coming to Whistler many years ago when the Bike Park was in its infancy. For Emily, who was a dedicated downhill racer at the time, Whistler was a great place to come and ride because of the trails and the people embedded there that helped push her riding.

Nine years later, after riding many places around the world, Emily still finds herself drawn to Whistler for the summers because of its incredible diversity in riding styles and motivated riding community.

Switzerland DH Trip with Wade Simmons & Big Mo Switzerland DH Trip with Wade Simmons & Big Mountain Bike Adventures
I stood on the shores of Lake Geneva, looking across the water. Towering on the horizon were the gargantuan peaks of the Swiss Alps, their gnarled peaks raking the clouds. Like solemn sentinels, they held secrets of legendary descents that plunged from peaks to valleys. Soon, their secrets would be revealed to me. For the next 9 days, I would rock the alpine with Big Mountain Bike Adventures on their Alpenrock DH trip. Wade Simmons and young gun Stephen Mathews from Calgary would be our guides through what, at times, seemed like the pages of a medieval fairytale, railing deep-dish dirt on rarely ridden trails with names like Rolling Orgy and Medieval Flow. Each day would be filled with massive descents that would take us through loam filled forests ending in the cobble-stoned streets of mountainside villages.

Described by Chris Winter, Big Mountain founder, Alpenrock was a downhiller’s dream. “Paradise on a bike, the equivalent of Mavericks for surfers.” Since Winter has created bike adventures throughout the world from Morocco to Mexico, his word is good as gold.

Bearclaw and Mt. Washington resort are proud to announce the return of the Bearclaw Invitational on August 6th, 2011.

The Bearclaw Invitational will be the most progressive slopestyle event of the year, and yes, you can count on the course being topnotch, since I'm the one building it. The course itself will have all the big obstacles the boys are used to and then some surprises thrown in as well, all built around a 4" to 6" travel bike. It will have a very authentic West Coast feel, since it's being built in the forest at Mt. Washington. What's really rad is that this Bearclaw Invitational course will be permanent, so no more building and then tearing it down each Fall.

It’s been a real long week building the course and I couldn’t have done it without Casey Groves and Greg Watts. Luckily this year the Grand National Rodeo was the weekend before our event so the guys from the Rodeo moved the dirt into place for us unlike last year, and it saved us a lot of build time. We started building the course last Saturday and completed it today. Some of the riders who showed up early got to test out the course and by the looks of it everyone was stoked. It’s so rad to see a course you designed in your head come to real life and work and if Greg Watts can flip his mini on the jumps (video of this feat inside!), you know we'll be killing it on our bikes this weekend.
